But, this video was awesome!

Wow. I don’t have a clue what drove St. John’s County Commissioner Ben Rich to jump on this guy. For all I know, Bud Markel could be the biggest jerk on the planet. What isn’t in doubt is that it’s pretty inappropriate to threaten a citizen with anal rape.
Let’s go to the tape: Ben Rich vs. Bud Markel
Really? Let’s say everything Ben Rich is saying about Bud Markel is true. Let’s say Bud Markel really is a liar. I don’t know that, but for the sake of argument, let’s say Ben Rich is 100% accurate in his opinion.
Is it still ok for an elected official to threaten a citizen, a SENIOR CITIZEN with assault? Is it ok for an elected official to threaten a citizen with forcible sodomy? Is it ok for anyone at least 20 years younger than the Bud Markel to threaten him with assault?
I suppose with Larry “Bud” Melman in the grave, Commissioner School Bully Ben Rich had to move on to the next oldest guy he could find.

Update 11/15/07:
My wife ordered a shirt for me for my birthday. Very cool design. At least 2 sizes too small. I wear XXXL (shut up, I know I’m fat). This wasn’t even close. I could barely get it over my shoulders, and it wouldn’t close at any point in the shirt - not the neck, chest, or belly. My guess is that the Indonesian manufacturer just ran a bunch of XL shirts off the line and sewed whatever size labels were ordered into the shirts. I don’t know what their quality control procedures are, but their specs for XXXL shirts aren’t even close to those of every other shirt company in the US. If you see a design you like, just know you need to order several sizes larger. On the plus side, the company agreed to take the return and asked a bunch of follow-up questions so they can improve their process.

Yeah, you knew I couldn’t stay away from this bit about the UF student (here’s his website, by the way) that got tasered at a speech by John Kerry. A lot of people are jumping to his defense, but I watched the video below and thought he was a total douchebag - rude, monopolizing the mic, out of control, resisting arrest.
You can’t do that, moron.
Seriously, he comes across in the full video, the video that shows what led up to the police stepping in, like someone with a mental problem. No, not trying to be funny, just an observation. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - I wish I knew half as much as I thought I knew when I was his age.

Car donations

Several weeks ago, I wrote about my experience donating a car to charity, in relation to a post about donating a boat to charity. tonight, I want to highlight an organization that donates vehicles.
You could do what I did and scour the web and the yellow pages for an organization that is willing, worthy and qualified from a tax deductible standpoint to accept your donation of a car. Or, you could go through an organization like Car Angel ministries to Donate Your Car In Los Angeles.
When donating a car, you’ll need to check Publication 78 to find charities that qualify to be used to take advantage of the car to donate for tax rebates. You’ll also need to know how the charity intends to use the vehicle in order to know what you can deduct. For instance, if the charity sells the vehicle, your deduction is limited to the price for which the charity is able to sell the vehicle. But, you can deduct the fair market value if the charity uses the vehicle for a program or donates the vehicle to a needy person in order to help that person.
Substantial documentation is also required by the IRS. Therefore, it helps to work with an organization like Car Angel ministries, which takes the donation and disposes of it swiftly, then posts the sales results online where the donor can print a 1098 compatible donation receipt at tax time.
While this post is targeted for Los Angeles Car Donations, you should know that nationwide pick-up of your car donation is available. You can also choose from an extensive list of charities to fund with your donation: from across America. You decide the project you wish to fund with your donation: Health, Education, Welfare, Religious Studies, Homeless, or Prison Reform. Among the projects funded by Car Angel Ministries is Free DVDs for Kids, which produces a five-episode series of animated videos that are being distributed to preschools, Sunday schools, and libraries free of charge.
So, here’s a chance to do something good, and an organization that will make it easy for you. Check it out.
