Football - Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Denver Broncos
Filed Under Football, Jacksonville, Sports | Leave a Comment
Oh, it was quite a big football weekend here in North Florida!
We’ll get to the Gators shortly; for now, I wanted to point to an article about the Broncos by Woody Paige at The Denver Post. He ain’t pullin’ any punches folks:
They were lucky the first two Sundays. They were lucky on the third Sunday they didn’t lose by the 1,000-0 score I predicted.
It was rather difficult for the Broncos to kick a winning field goal on the final play when they were behind by nine points. And on their behinds.
The previous week there was a half-hour postponement because of lightning. The Broncos needed an invasion of locusts Sunday.
…
Afterward the Broncos offered more excuses than the boy without his homework. The dog must have eaten their playbook. The Broncos said they have to look at the films. Wes Craven wouldn’t release those horror movies.
The final implosion occurred when the Broncos had fourth-and-5 at their 9-yard line with 4:19 left. They were within a touchdown. Jay Cutler threw down the middle to tight end Daniel Graham, who was more wide open than Wyoming.
Graham clutched the ball, then dropped it. "It’s a play I should make," he said. The 76,463 who got up to leave would agree.
Looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes.
- Elton John…
Which brings up the special teams, whose play would bring up lunch.
Domenik Hixon, as mentioned here the week before, should not be returning punts or kickoffs or pop bottles. It will be mentioned here again. He fumbled the second-half kickoff. Jacksonville recovered at the 18 and kicked a field goal for a 20-7 lead.
The Jaguars had a 42-yard kickoff return in the second quarter - without a fumble.
Jacksonville attacked Denver where it hurt - up the middle against defensive linemen and linebackers who were playing as if they had motor oil on their hands..
How important was that 12 minute drive in the first half? If the Broncos have one minute, two minutes moe in the fourth quarter, do they go for that idiotic 4th and 5 or do they punt? I don’t know about you, but I saw some momentum swinging their way after the Jags had a series of disasters in the red zone. And if the Broncos had converted that 4th down and marched downfield for the score, winning 21-20, it’s Del Rio on the hot seat for that 3rd down spike at the one - talk about completely losing track of where you are in the game!
I said it before and I’ll say it again: Winning solves sports marketing problems. The Jags will sell a few more tickets thanks to this game, for which they should thank the Broncos.

I’m over my trepidation regarding migrating my blogs to Wordpress and a new host. Since I went with Bluehost several weeks ago, I’ve mucked around trying to screw stuff up and haven’t. So I’m feeling better about my problems with GoDaddy being GoDaddy’s fault and not mine.
Effin’ GoDaddy.
This blog is hosted on Blogger. Nothing against Blogger - the price is right and the UI is easy to learn and use - but I need the tools and features in WP in a bad way. So, I’m going to take a deep breath sometime this week and mobilate this blog over to Wordpress. I don’t know when - could be as soon as tonight - but sometime when I can sit down and have a couple hours of uninterrupted time.
But here’s the thing - I have no idea if my RSS feeds are going to break in the process. So, be looking for it. I’ll probably give a final “Here goes nothing” post, then we’ll just have to see on the other side, right?
Oh, and if anyone has a recommendation for a super-cool WP theme for this puppy, let me know.

Forgive them - they too young and dumb to realize that once you add a “fee”, it defies the laws of physics that state that something that goes up must come down. Fees never come down, and volunteering to pay them damns the students that follow to pay escalations caused by an ever-increasing portfolio of “green projects”. After all, if I were a University president, every building in the planning stage would be classified as “green” and I’d rape that fund for every penny and hit those environmentally-aware-but-financially-stupid kids for every penny I could squeeze out of them. Or their parents.
Florida university students push for ‘green’ fees
Orlando Business Journal - 9:00 AM EDT Monday, May 14, 2007Students from the University of Central Florida, New College, Florida Atlantic University, University of Florida are working to kick-start a funding source to apply environmentally friendly practices on campuses. and the
The first phase of the plan is to incorporate a proposed 50- to 75-cent “green fee” into tuition to finance projects that would campus energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The proposals are asking for a campus sustainability committee made up of students, faculty and staff to oversee those funds.
UCF’s green fee campaign is expected to be voted on by students during the student government elections in the fall. It follows the national campaign Campus Climate Challenge, under which similar proposals have been made at southeastern colleges, such as the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and the University of Tennessee.
“Campuses use a large portion of the nations energy from non-renewable resources like coal which contribute to global warming pollution,” says Stephen Mortellaro, UCF student senator and green fee campaign coordinator, in a prepared statement. “We’ve got to do something and the [green] fee seems like a great first step.”
UF’s Gators for Sustainable Campus group recently passed a student vote with 78 percent approval. The issue is awaiting review by the board of trustees this summer.
