We're all Alabama fans for the next few weeks

I am an unabashed fan of the Gators of the University of Florida. I am a proud attendee of 6 entire weeks during the summer of 1985. I firmly believe every young man should spend a year in Gainesville. Good times, good times… Now, I live in Huntsville, AL. When people ask how I like [...]

Perfection denied

Best Super Bowl Ever. After the way the Giants went out in Week 17 and competed with their full roster when they had every reason to rest the starters, it’s great to see them go on this run. Outstanding. Although some people might not agree.

Coach Urban Meyer: Dumb mistake, or something more?

Most people know I’m a Gator fan. I don’t pretend anything else. Now, we’re hearing reports that Urban Meyer contacted the girlfriend of a recruit, who is also a gymnast and probably a legitimate scholarship athlete herself, supposedly to recruit her with the idea that she and the football recruit would probably accept scholarships together. [...]

Is it game time yet?

I have another blog I’ve dusted off and started posting to, with a hyperlocal focus on the first coast of Florida. So, far, it’s mostly been sports, but that will probably change after Saturday when my beloved Jags get eliminated. I’m not the greatest football handicapper, so I asked my brother to drop some knowledge [...]

ACC Football: Tampa > Jacksonville

The talking-head sports-wonks in Jacksonville are saying good riddance to the ACC and their decision to move the ACC Championship game to Tampa and Charlotte. Ticket sales in Jacksonville were poor, with the schools’ not selling their allotment and the local market going “ho-hum” and the thought of Boston College and Virginia Tech. This game [...]

The obligatory Tebow girlfriend (not) post

It is obligatory these days when writing about Tim Tebow that one include a photo of him with his Heisman Trophy wife. I admit it. I am one jealous, fat, middle-aged man. So, anyway, congratulations to Tim Tebow of THE University of Florida. For a sophmore on a 3-loss team to win the Heisman, it’s [...]

Tebow for Heisman

Hey, the guy has made it tough for the Heisman voters, that’s for sure. They may not want to give it to a sophomore, but THAT’s the only reason they have at this point. Tonight’s game against FSU was pure artistry, 50+ TDs by any player is unheard of in a college season. I’m a [...]

Time to give Fred Taylor his due

Without much hype or countdown outside of Jacksonville, Fred Taylor reached a milestone equaled by only 21 other men in the history of the world: 10,000 NFL rushing yards. To give you some perspective on this accomplishment, here’s some numbers: Number of people to climb Mt. Everest: @ 660 Ok, I’m too lazy to go [...]

"Our geneology is a little vague…"

Mr. Fab‘s Kentucky cousin has graced us with the UK Fight song – Enjoy!     Go Gators!

We are a fickle sports town, aren't we Jacksonville?

Several weeks ago I wrote that “winning solves sports marketing problems”. This past weekend, the 3-1 Jaguars played the Houston Texans and Jacksonville suffered through another blackout because of ticket sales. Some local reporters and broadcasters were aghast that there was a blackout for a 3-1 team. They kept pointing out how cheap the Jags tickets are compare to the rest of the league, but missed how expensive they are compared to groceries and gasoline.
