sharkSeeing blog posts and tweets from various and sundry bloggers that seem to have gathered for a trip to Sea World – Orlando brought back memories of my time working there one summer in college. Normally, I was assigned to the Fantasy Theatre, working the Under the Sea show as an usher, or Dr. Lovecraft’s Night Magic Show (this was a veeeerrrrryyyyy long time ago!). One day, I was assigned to cover the Shark Encounter for whatever reason. While there, I noticed a dead grouper on the bottom of the tank.

The special in the employee cafeteria the following day: Grouper Bits.

Stay tuned, I have a million of ‘em… ;-)

  2. All I can say is….eeeewww :)

Haven’t been to Sea World yet, so I can’t really compare, but visiting the Aquarium in Valencia, Spain was awesome experience. I urge you, if you’re ever in that area, take a day off and visit the Aquarium, it’s brilliant. No dead groupers though, but I did see a very old and lazy seal.

  4. What a story!

I guess the company (Sea World) believes in making sure everything should have its purpose.
When you mentioned the dead grouper, and having “that” meal served in the cafeteria the next day…well…I guess, it’s good to eat fish?!?!!

If you look at it from another angle…

Four ounces of uncooked grouper has only 110 calories, 2 grams of fat (none is saturated) and only 55 grams of cholesterol. When you add the 23 grams of protein plus calcium and iron, grouper begins to look like the perfect food. Because the grouper meat is so low in fat, some basting may be necessary when grilling, broiling or baking. Florida grouper can be purchased fresh or frozen.

Great to know everyone’s diet in the Sea World is not something we should worry about!

  6. There’s some hefty fines for catching grouper now. SeaWorld may be in big trouble!

  10. we have the a clearwater marine aquarium where there is a famous dolphin that was rescued about 15 years ago and had to have it’s tail amputated. It is now learning to swim with a prosthetic tail that cost $250,000 to develop. Pretty Wild!

  36. I love dolphins the best. So any dolphin show I make sure I watch it. Twice! LOL! Seals are funny to watch too. It seems all they do is go after the man, or woman, with the fish. =P
