Only in FLA: Man arrested for stealing empty beer cans

There’s no better way to get back in the Florida-flow than to find a really good “Only in FLA” story. From Hernando County, home of the Fightin’ Leopards and the place I will always consider home, comes one of the more stupid arrest stories since the guy that got arrested for stealing oranges from his neighbor’s yard.

Stolen: 60 empty beer cans

Even when you leave beer cans out to be recycled they always end up getting picked up or shall I say "stolen." Well, at least that's always been my experience. I'll leave some beer cans with the rest of my recycables, I come back after a few hours and everything is there except the beer cans. Now if I ever caught the perpetrator I wouldn't call the cops. That's just crazy.

  • Wow, fifty bucks? Hmm...
  • Surprisingly, its not the first time I've heard of someone getting arrested over an empty beer can in Florida.

A friend once brought an empty can to spit his dip in during a walk on the beach... and beer on the beach in that part of Jacksonville is (was?) a misdemeanor. Of course, the law specified "containers of alcohol" so it didn't differentiate between the drink and the empty can!
