Mystery Shopping: Restauranteurs, Hoteliers, and Theme Park Honchos

My wife and I are experienced Mystery Shoppers, primarily for restaurants, hotels, and theme parks over the last 13 years. In my professional life, my background is in marketing and operations, so I have the diverse skills necessary to assess a wide variety of product and service offerings. Additionally, my wife has a strong background in quality control for service-based businesses. We have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have the experience necessary to provide objective assessments based solely on the assigned visit and criteria.

When you are paying for my assessment, you can dictate whether or not my review is posted here, in addition to being used for your own internal quality control. I won’t edit my reviews to suit your wishes; if I cannot post them here as-is, I will just not post them.

Geographical Limitiations:

  • Restaurants/Stores: Duval, St. Johns, Clay, Nassau counties, depending on the attractiveness of the restaurant. Will assess most restaurant type and chains, however only restaurants unique to Florida will be profiled here.
  • Hotels: Anywhere, although only Florida hotels are profiled here.
  • Theme Parks: Anywhere, although only Florida parks are profiled here.

Compensation:

  • Restaurants: Minimum should cover two meals plus normal tip in your restaurant. Ideally, a direct reimbursement of expenses incurred is most fair, plus a small stipend for the time needed to complete a written assessment. Assignments CANNOT cost us money out of our own pockets.
  • Stores: Direct compensation of the minimum amount of merchandise purchased, plus a small stipend for the time needed to complete a written assessment.
  • Hotels: Direct reimbursement of expenses, plus mileage stipend. For trips over 2 hours, minimum stay will be 2 nights. I reserve the right to cancel the assignment upon arrival if I consider my safety or belongings at risk.
  • Theme Parks: Direct reimbursement of admission, plus any expenses incurred inside the park as a result of the assignment (i.e., assessing a store or restaurant in a park will be (Admission expense + Food/Merchandise expense) = Reimbursement). Minimums of two assignments are required in the same day, to be carried out by my wife and me so we can minimize our own expenses.

Other Assessments:

I will consider all other types of assessments on a case-by-case basis. I have learned from past experience that the following types of assignments are not interesting to my wife or me: counting store traffic for you or a competitor, assignments that require acting when there is a reasonable expectation that your employee may try to follow-up with us (i.e. apartment leasing assessments), assignments that require the person being assessed to visit our home, and fast-food restaurants.

Exceptions:

If I find that the assessment is poorly designed or the compensation provided is not sufficient to cover the minimum expenses of the visit, I reserve the right to post that fact here. An example of this type of post is here.

  • Good perspective. What are your thoughts on offering shoppers a direct deposit payment option? Shoppers could then be paid more frequently (within a week of the shops completion and the money goes straight to their bank account.
